About

The Climate Alliance

We are an alliance of climate-justice organizations and activists that focus on climate restitution. We focus strategically on selected, local and county-wide issues which we can leverage to build larger campaigns.

We have worked and continue to work of the following issues:

  • Sea level rise, and in Santa Cruz our concerns focus on saltwater intrusion and black mold in Beach Flats where there are already issues.
  • The Rail and Trail issue consumed our energy during the spring of 2022. We fought hard to overturn Measure D, a highly funded effort to remove the rail from Davenport to Watsonville and replace it with a trail only. We joined many groups in Santa Cruz County to defeat this measure by over 70%.
  • The overall most economical investment is a heat pump water heater (HPWH), because of the generous rebates available. HPWHs are 3 to 5 times more efficient than gas water heaters. We are working on a campaign to help residents move from gas water heaters to HPWHs. HPWHs use about 65% less electricity than electric water heaters and can reach up to 300% to 400% efficiency.
  • Electing candidates and electeds who are current and passionate in their thinking on climate issues and eco-justice issues to the County BoS, RTC, 3CE, and each of the city boards. We are currently working on the Lani Faulkner for County Supervisor campaign and the Sean Doughtery for Congress campaigns,

We all know temperature records are continually being broken. Tipping points dates are moving up. We are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. We will continue to work hard together to make a cleaner and greener earth.

The time to act is now.
