The new building at 525 Cedar Street, next to Calvary Church, will provide 64 units of affordable family housing with 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. The rents will be 30% to 60% of the area median income (AMI), and 25% of the units are slated for permanent supportive housing. Several units can accommodate those with disabilities. Laundry rooms are located on each of the four floors. One unit, not included with the 64 affordable units, will house the on-site building superintendent.
This building, fully electric, with no gas line hookup, has rooftop solar panels, electric stoves and heat pumps. Windows are double glazed. No parking is included because the location is within half a mile of transit stops. However, there is a bike room on the ground floor. Also on the ground floor near the entrance is a meeting area with comfortable seating. There are two storefronts, also along Cedar St.
An alcove along the side of the building facing Calvary Church has a garden with benches. On the other side of the building there is a patio area with tables, chairs and a children’s play area.
The building should be ready for occupancy by the end of March.
